Tschammer’s library collection includes the first edition of collection of standardized maps of the world under the title “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum” .

(Theatre of the World), made by a Flemish cartographer, Abraham Ortelius in 1580. First, the maps were engraved on polished copper printing plates, then, duplication on a press followed. The world presented by Ortelius includes high cartographic detail, but also diversity of additional elements, such as animals, plants, emblems, etc. Did you know that “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum” contains the first map of Silesia made by Martin Helwig in 1561?
